AI Ad Tools for an Indian Small Business — Honest Guide for Owner-Operators

Adyft Guide

AI Advertising

This is written for the person who owns the business and also, at eleven at night, runs the ads. A salon in Indiranagar, a dental clinic in Andheri, a coaching institute in Jaipur, a two-van AC service covering half a district. No marketing team, no appetite for a retainer, and quite possibly one bad experience already with a freelancer who stopped replying.

The mistake that costs the most, before anything else

Three campaigns we run, same account, same period, different objectives:

₹6.31 per click

Traffic objective, 5.65% click-through.

₹9.39 per click

Click-to-WhatsApp, 0.89% click-through — and an actual conversation.

₹33.13 per click

Awareness objective, 0.12% click-through.

💡 Five times the cost per click, decided by objective alone. If you take one thing from this: awareness campaigns produce impressive reach numbers in a report and cost you five times as much per click. Unless you are a brand with a budget to build recognition, awareness is almost never what you want.

Note too that the cheapest click was not the best result. That ₹6.31 traffic campaign produced 28 landing page views from 45 clicks — nearly 40% tapped and left before the page loaded — and none of them spoke to anyone. The ₹9.39 chat campaign produced a conversation. For a business that sells by talking, the more expensive click was the better buy.

What a tool genuinely takes off you

Audience construction

Twenty minutes for an experienced buyer, two hours of second-guessing for you. A good tool reads Meta's live targeting catalogue and builds layered segments rather than one broad guess.

Keyword research

Real search volumes rather than terms that sound plausible. Search is comparatively uncontested in India and worth doing properly.

Creative production

An ad image with your offer as readable text, in Hindi or your regional language, without a designer.

Campaign structure

Objectives, budgets, placements. Where most self-run campaigns quietly go wrong, because the errors never produce a warning.

What it cannot do

It does not know why your customers choose you. Not that you open on Sundays, or that you speak the language they are comfortable in, or that your quote includes the parts. Those are what make an ad work and they have to come from you.

💡 The single highest-leverage thing you will do is write the business description properly. Two honest sentences about who your customer is and why they pick you produce a better campaign than any amount of tool-switching. Most people type something generic, get a generic campaign, and decide the software does not work.

It also does not know what a customer is worth to you — the number that makes every other number interpretable. A ₹500 lead is cheap if a client is worth ₹80,000 and ruinous if an average sale is ₹900. You can work it out in five minutes and it will change every decision afterwards.

WhatsApp is probably your destination

If you sell appointments, quotes or services rather than products from a shop, your customers will want to message you. Sending paid traffic to a website contact form when the same person would happily have sent a WhatsApp throws away conversions for the sake of looking formal.

Three things break these campaigns silently, and all three are worth checking by hand:

  • 1The leading zero. 098765 43210 must become +91 98765 43210. Get it wrong and every tap lands on a number that does not exist. Nobody complains — they just give up.
  • 2The Facebook Page must have a WhatsApp number connected in Page settings, or the launch fails with an error that reads like a permissions problem.
  • 3A video creative cannot carry a link on the WhatsApp button. Meta rejects it with a code that explains nothing, while image creatives accept the same thing.

And set a WhatsApp Business greeting message plus icebreaker prompts. Both are free, take two minutes, and stop people opening a chat, facing an empty box and closing it.

Claims, briefly

AI writes "best in Bangalore" and "guaranteed results" without hesitating. ASCI applies to digital advertising and the advertiser is responsible, not the software. Replace superlatives with something checkable — "open Sundays, same-day appointments, 200 metres from the metro" is both compliant and better advertising, because specifics persuade and adjectives do not.

And never publish a review, rating or testimonial that is not real. It is not worth the exposure or what it does to a local reputation when noticed.

A sensible first three months

Month one

One campaign, one properly funded ad set, the right objective. Destination WhatsApp if you sell services. Write the description honestly and do not touch it for two weeks.

Month two

Add a second audience segment so you have something to compare. Now you are learning which customer is cheaper to reach.

Month three

Add Google Search if people search for what you do. It is comparatively uncontested here and often cheaper per customer than Meta.

Two timing facts so you do not panic in week one: a new click or conversion ad set typically takes four to five hours before its first impression, and three days of data means nothing. Reacting to noise makes it worse, because every edit restarts Meta's evaluation of that ad set and sends it back to the start.

Two questions before you pay anyone

  • 1Does it launch into my own ad account? If the tool runs ads from an account it controls, your pixel history and audiences are not yours and leaving costs you everything you built.
  • 2Does it take a percentage of ad spend? That is a recurring tax on growth, separate from the subscription.
