Indian small businesses pile into Meta because the creative is satisfying and the clicks are cheap. Search gets skipped, which means in a great many categories Google is the least contested high-intent traffic available to you — somebody typing "AC repair Indiranagar" at ten at night is not browsing. This is what an AI tool needs to do for Indian Google Ads, and how to check before paying.
The two-minute test that eliminates half the market
Ask whether keyword selection uses live Google Keyword Planner data through the official Google Ads API, or whether a language model is asked which keywords are popular.
The second is extremely common — Planner access requires an approved Google Ads developer token and a live account, while guessing requires neither. The output reads beautifully and contains terms nobody in India actually searches. The campaign then gets almost no impressions and nothing explains why.
💡 Check it yourself. Take five keywords the tool suggests, paste them into Keyword Planner with India selected, and look at the volume column. If several return a dash or near-zero, the list was generated rather than researched. This single test tells you more than any demo.
Hindi and regional search is a separate campaign
People search in the language they think in, and in India that splits sharply by category and city. Professional services and B2B skew English. Local services, health, education and family categories carry far more regional-language and transliterated search than most advertisers expect.
Two things follow. These should not share an ad group — different costs, different competition, different intent patterns, and mixing them means you never learn which works. And transliterated search is real: people type Hindi words in Latin script constantly, and a keyword set that only covers Devanagari misses most of that volume.
Negatives for the Indian market
The part no vendor demo shows, and where Indian campaigns leak hardest. Build these before spending anything:
- 1Job seekers. "jobs", "vacancy", "salary", "recruitment", "hiring", "course", "training". In India this is an enormous share of search volume around almost any profession or service.
- 2Free and DIY intent. "free", "how to", "download", "pdf", "sample". Particularly heavy in education and professional services.
- 3Research and comparison. "vs", "which is better", "review" — sometimes valuable, frequently not, and worth separating so you can judge.
- 4Out-of-city terms. Location targeting helps but does not stop keyword-level leakage between metros.
- 5Wrong-service terms specific to you. No tool guesses these; you supply them, and they are often the most valuable negatives on the account.
A tool that generates keywords but not negatives, and does not extend the list weekly from the search terms report, has done the easy half and left you the expensive half.
Match types at a rupee budget
Exact
Least reach, least waste. The right starting point at small budgets, which in India is most budgets.
Phrase
A sensible middle once negatives are built and you read search terms weekly.
Broad
Powerful at scale with real conversion signal behind it. Dangerous before that. A tool defaulting you to broad on a small budget is optimising for Google, not for you.
The phone is your conversion
Most Indian service enquiries are calls or WhatsApp messages, not form fills. If your conversion tracking counts only form submissions you are measuring the minority and telling Google to optimise toward it.
Set up call conversion tracking so a call from the ad counts, and use call extensions so the number is tappable directly from the search result — many people will never reach your website at all. Set a minimum call duration so wrong numbers do not train the algorithm.
💡 A campaign optimising toward a conversion that never fires is optimising toward nothing — the bidding has no signal and the reporting has no truth. This is especially easy to hit in India, where a large share of enquiries arrive by phone or WhatsApp and never touch a tracked page at all.
Search and social together
Most AI ad tools do one platform, which is tolerable until you want to know which channel produced your customers. There is also a budget argument specific to India: search captures demand that already exists and is comparatively cheap here, while social creates demand and is where everyone else is bidding. The right split shifts as you grow, and making that call across two products with two bills is harder than it needs to be.
What good looks like
Real volumes
Keywords researched against Indian Keyword Planner data, with city-level geo targeting verified against the API rather than assumed.

Negatives from day one
Jobs, free intent, research and wrong-service terms before launch, extended weekly.
Calls counted
Call conversions tracked, not just forms.
Acts after launch
A keyword optimiser working on live performance, not a report you interpret yourself.
