Website, WhatsApp or Lead Form: Where Should a Small Business Send Its Ad Traffic?

Adyft Guide

Ads + WhatsApp

Send ad traffic to WhatsApp when your customers like to ask questions before buying and someone can answer quickly. Use a Meta lead form when you want contact details to call back and a short qualifying question matters more than a conversation. Use your website when the purchase needs information, prices, photos or trust before contact, or when you are advertising on Google Search. There is no single right answer; the right destination is the one that matches how your customer decides and how you can respond.

When your website is the best destination

Choose the website when people need to see before they speak. Higher-priced services, anything with lots of options, and businesses where trust is the main hurdle all do better when the visitor can look at photos, read reviews and check prices first. The enquiries are fewer but usually further along.

The website is also the only option for Google Search ads, which send people to a web page. If you want to catch people searching “dentist near me” or “boiler repair”, the page they land on has to be ready for them.

The catch: a slow or vague page loses most visitors before they ever contact you, and you cannot see why unless calls, WhatsApp clicks and form submissions are tracked.

When WhatsApp is the best destination

Click-to-WhatsApp ads open a chat with your business. They suit local services where the customer wants a quick answer: “Do you have space on Saturday?”, “How much for a deep clean of a two-bedroom flat?”. In countries where WhatsApp is the normal way to talk to businesses, such as India and the UAE, many customers prefer it to forms or calls.

The catch is speed. A chat that waits hours for a reply is a lead most likely lost. WhatsApp ads only make sense if someone, or something, answers quickly during the hours the ads run.

💡 WhatsApp ads bring conversations, not customers. The conversion happens in the reply. Budget for the time to answer as carefully as the money for the ads.

When a lead form is the best destination

A lead form opens inside Facebook or Instagram with the person’s details already filled in. It suits businesses that sell by phone: home improvements, insurance, property, education. You can add a few questions to sort serious enquiries from casual ones, such as when they plan to start or which area they are in.

The catch is that easy forms bring some people who submit without meaning to talk. More questions mean fewer but more serious leads. In Adyft Ads you can pick from suggested questions or write your own, up to five, with name and phone always collected.

A quick way to choose

  • 1Advertising on Google Search? Website.
  • 2No website yet, or a weak one? WhatsApp or lead form on Meta.
  • 3Customers usually ask one or two questions, then book? WhatsApp.
  • 4You close deals on the phone and need to filter? Lead form with two questions.
  • 5High price, or customers compare carefully? Website, ideally a page made for that one offer.
  • 6Nobody can answer chats during the day? Lead form, with a call-back the same evening.

Should you run more than one?

Often, yes, as separate campaigns rather than all at once. A common pattern for a local business is Google Search to the website for people already looking, plus a Meta campaign to WhatsApp or a lead form for people who were not searching yet. Run them long enough to compare cost per lead and, more importantly, how many leads became customers.

How Adyft handles the destination

When you create a campaign in Adyft Ads, you choose the goal: WhatsApp leads, lead forms, website visits for Google Search, sales for an online shop, or brand awareness. Meta lead forms and WhatsApp campaigns do not need a website. Google campaigns need a website and a connected Google Ads account before Adyft builds them. Whichever you choose, leads from Adyft’s campaigns land in one Leads inbox, so you can compare destinations by what they actually brought in.

If the website is the weak link, Adyft Sites builds one with a WhatsApp button, an enquiry form and click tracking on every plan, and pages made for ads on the Growth and Pro plans.

Questions about where to send ad clicks

Are WhatsApp ads better than lead forms?

Neither is better in general. WhatsApp suits customers who want a quick conversation and businesses that can reply fast. Lead forms suit businesses that call back and want to filter with a question or two.

Do I need a website for Facebook ads?

No. Lead forms and WhatsApp ads work without one. You do need a website for Google Search ads.

Which destination gives the cheapest leads?

Lead forms and WhatsApp usually cost less per lead than website visits, because they ask less of the person. Cheaper leads are not always cheaper customers, so compare what each one turned into.

Can I change the lead form after the campaign is live?

On Meta, a live campaign’s lead form cannot be edited. To ask different questions, create a new campaign.

Should I send Google ad clicks to my home page?

Usually a page about the exact service in the ad works better than a general home page.
