Opening a New Local Business? Your First 30 Days Online, Week by Week

Adyft Guide

Small Business Growth

In its first 30 days online, a new local business should do four things in order: get found (a Google Business Profile and a simple website in week one), look trustworthy (photos, prices and first reviews in week two), get seen (a small, local ad campaign in week three), and learn (answer every enquiry, then check what worked in week four). Doing them in this order matters. Ads that point to a business with no reviews and no website work, but they work much harder than they need to.

Before day one: decide three things

  • 1Your one-line offer: what you do, for whom, where. “Children’s swimming lessons in Sharjah” is an offer. “Fitness for everyone” is not.
  • 2Your area: the towns or neighbourhoods you will actually serve. Ads and pages both depend on it.
  • 3Who answers enquiries, and when. Decide this now, not when the first messages arrive.

Week 1: become findable

Create or claim your Google Business Profile. It is free and it is how you appear on Google Maps and in “near me” searches. Use the exact business name, address or service area, phone number and hours you will use everywhere else.

Get a simple website live, even if it is short. Five pages are enough for most new local businesses: home, about, services, gallery and contact. What matters is that it explains the offer on a phone screen, shows a price or starting price, and has a visible way to get in touch.

Adyft Sites Starter is a 5-page site delivered in under 7 days, with SEO on every page, a WhatsApp button, an enquiry form and tracking already set up. In the UK that is £299 to set up; in India ₹7,999; in the UAE AED 1,299; in the US $349, plus a small monthly fee.

Week 2: look trustworthy

A new business has to borrow trust it has not earned yet. Real photos of the premises, the team and the first jobs help more than any slogan. So does being clear about price.

  • 1Add at least ten real photos to your Google profile and website.
  • 2Ask your first customers, friends who used the service and early trial clients for honest Google reviews. Ask in person, then send the link.
  • 3Post a few times on Instagram or Facebook so the page does not look empty when someone checks it.
  • 4Write down the answers to the questions you will be asked most, so replies are quick and consistent.

💡 A handful of genuine reviews before your first ad is worth more than a bigger ad budget. Never buy or fake reviews; platforms remove them and customers notice.

Week 3: get seen by people nearby

Now launch a small, local campaign. Keep it simple: one offer, one area, a daily budget you are comfortable losing while you learn. For most new local businesses, one of these two starting points works:

If customers…Start withWhy
Search for what you do (plumber, dentist, tutor)Google Search ads to your websiteYou reach people at the moment they look
Discover what you do by seeing it (salon, café, gym)Facebook and Instagram ads to WhatsApp or a lead formYou reach nearby people who were not searching yet

An opening offer can help, but make it specific and honest: a first-visit price, a free consultation with a clear length, a launch week. Avoid “huge discounts” you cannot keep up.

Adyft Ads builds the campaign from a short description of your business, shows you every ad before launch, and publishes it to your own Meta or Google ad account. The 14-day free trial includes one campaign credit, which is enough for a first test.

Week 4: answer everything, then learn

The first enquiries are precious. Answer each one the same day, ideally within minutes, and note where it came from: Google profile, website, an ad, a friend. At the end of the month, look at three numbers.

Enquiries by source

Which channel actually made people get in touch.

Cost per enquiry from ads

Ad spend divided by the enquiries the ads brought.

Enquiries that became customers

The only number that pays the rent.

Keep what worked, change one thing that did not, and run month two. Resist changing everything at once; you will not know what made the difference.

Answering enquiries when you are also opening a business

Launch month is the busiest month you will have, which is exactly when replies slip. A shared inbox helps if a partner or family member can cover. Adyft Reply’s Free plan gives up to 3 people one inbox for website chat and Telegram today, with no card; WhatsApp and the AI answers are opening soon. If your ads run to WhatsApp, make sure someone has the phone during the hours the ads run.

Common first-month mistakes

  • 1Spending the whole launch budget in the first three days.
  • 2Advertising citywide when customers will only travel a few kilometres.
  • 3Different names, phone numbers or hours on Google, the website and social pages.
  • 4Running ads before anyone is ready to answer.
  • 5Judging ads after two days. Give a test at least a week.

Questions about launching a local business online

Should a new business run ads straight away?

Usually after the basics are in place: a Google profile, a simple website or a clear WhatsApp option, a few photos and ideally a few reviews. That often takes one or two weeks.

How much should a new local business spend on ads in month one?

Only what you are comfortable treating as a test. A small daily budget for one offer in one area teaches you more than a large budget spread thin.

Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?

It helps. The profile gets you found; the website explains the offer, carries your prices and is needed for Google Search ads.

How fast can Adyft build a website for a new business?

The Starter plan, 5 pages, takes under 7 days. Growth takes about 12 days and Pro about 18.

Can I try Adyft Ads before paying?

Yes. There is a 14-day free trial with no card, which includes one campaign credit.
