Rules for Setting Your Ad Budget in India

5–8% of revenue is the Indian SMB standard

For businesses under ₹10L/month revenue. Larger businesses typically spend 3–5% because brand recognition reduces the cost of each new customer.

Never go below your minimum viable budget

If your industry CPL is ₹300, running ads at ₹2,000/month gives you 6–7 leads — too small a sample to optimise. You need at least 20–30 leads/month to learn what works.

Increase budget before peak season, not during

Budget increases take 1–2 weeks to ramp up on Meta and Google. Increase 3–4 weeks before Diwali, wedding season, or your peak month — not the week it starts.

Platform split follows your customer's behaviour

If customers search before buying (clinics, coaching, CA), allocate 50–70% to Google. If customers discover through browsing (salons, boutiques, gyms), allocate 70–100% to Meta.

Start with one platform, add the second at month 3

New advertisers who split budget across Meta and Google from day 1 often underperform on both. Start with your primary platform, optimise for 8–12 weeks, then add the second.

Ad spend is not the whole marketing budget

Your subscription to Adyft, design tools, and creative production are separate from ad spend. Ad budget = money going directly to Meta and Google. Plan these separately.
